Making High Quality Food Choices
I’m 41 years old and I find myself now becoming more conscious of the food I consume. I think we are mostly aware that all kind of toxic chemicals and antibiotics are put on or in food. Who knows what all psychological and physiological reactions come from consuming these foods over time. I know I’m late to what probably a lot of other people already know. They have already made the switch to eating organic and antibiotic free foods. Although I’m late, I’m seeing the light and making changes towards consuming high quality food.
Meal Delivery Service
I’ve been reading the ingredients and labels on food to see what’s in it and if I want to consume it. I’m checking to see if it’s organic, NON GMO, or free of nitrate and antibiotics. Guided by EWG Dirty Dozen List, I decide which fruits and vegetables I need to buy organic. This is basically my push to eating a higher quality of wholesome and nutrient rich food. There is a quote by Virgil:
“The greatest wealth is health”
I desire to have good health so I look to eat high quality nutrient rich food. Also, I aim to use services that provide food focused on ingredients. They are of more value to me than I can think at any other time in my life.
Meal delivery services like Blue Apron (Hello Fresh, Plated, etc.) give me access to this type of food. Although Blue Apron’s (ticker symbol APRN) stock, down from its $10 IPO price, hasn’t done well, I don’t want services like this to go away. They fill a need and provide sustainable meals with high quality ingredients in mind right to your door step. Yeah, you still need to cook it yourself. This is what’s challenging to do these days when there is so much fast food convenience. However, a lot of that food is trash. I find myself sometimes conflicted to stop and get something quick or make it at home, but luckily there are options.

Fast Food Convenience
A beaten down name that you should still give a chance for your business both stock and food-wise is Chipotle (ticker symbol CMG). I’m going to be adding it to my Os Own What You Love motif. They are fixing food with high quality in mind, with meats free of antibiotics. The only other company with an A is this respect was Panera Bread. They have become my go to as far as fast food convenience when I don’t cook a Blue Apron meal at home.
Yes, high quality food is more expensive, which is unfortunate. The reason being there is a lot more attention paid to how it’s made and what’s in it. Nonetheless, in relation to your health, the question is pay now or pay later. I think about some of my food addictions around sweets or sugary foods and how it may be linked to antibiotics in food that kills all the good bacteria in your guts. In turn, what it leaves is bad bacteria which craves the nutrient deficient junk foods. Those are foods that contribute to disease in the body.
Store Brands
So, I’ve been finding very appealing options in store brands like Simple Truth at Kroger, Great Value at Walmart, or 365 at Whole Foods that are organic and not as expensive. I have been spending my money there also and less on fast food that I cannot source the ingredients. To to get further discount, I often use store’s loyalty program, Ibotta, 5% cashback on rotating categories with Chase Freedom/Discover More or 5% cashback at Whole Foods with Chase Amazon Prime Rewards. At 41, I am proud of myself because I care enough about myself to combine diet and an exercise regimen below:
- Monday – Tabata Training
- Tuesday – Chisel(combination Weight Training, Cardio, and Abs)
- Wednesday – HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training)
- Thursday – I Want Muscle (Weight Training)
- Friday – Yoga Flow
For me, I’ve always struggled with my weight, but I like the direction of my diet and choices in food I’m making. As a result, I can tell I’m definitely healthier and more energetic.
Conclusion
So, yes I have to take time to make a good high quality Blue Apron meal, but I can feel good that I’m not continuing to consume foods that are going to kill me slowly. Though late, I’m definitely glad I’m thinking and acting differently when it comes to food I choose to get and consume. Whether it’s a meal delivery service, fast food, or store brands, I hope that choosing high quality food now means less bodily disease later. You live and you learn and I can find no better way to how I want to spend my money than to be particular about the food I put in my body. What about you?
