American Express is running a promotion where if I refer a friend to the American Express Premier Rewards Gold, I’ll earn up to 10,000 membership rewards(MR) points for each referral up to 55,000 MR per year.  Currently the signup bonus for this card is paltry 25,000 MR after 2K spend in 3 months and the annual fee of $195 is waived the first year. Along with the card you get annual $100 statement credit for airline incidental fees each calendar year you own the card.  Despite the low amount of points, it still could get you almost two free nights if you also spend an additional $3,000 at hotels like in the picture below.

As you may know, my wife and I like to travel and just this past year, we went to Hawaii for damn near free.  Check out my post here  on the specifics.  I too want you to get in on this award travel as it could mean monstrous savings for you.  For example, a co-worker of mine which I had spoken to regarding strategies around award travel took action on my advice and was able to purchases tickets for her parents to come from India to the USA.  She saved over $2,000 coming out of her own pocket by doing so!  She went big and got the Chase Sapphire Reserve when the signup bonus was at 100,000, despite $450 annual fee, which has a $300 credit (so it’s like paying $150), and as a result she saved herself a bundle.  Kudos to her, by the way, she told me she is now hooked on award travel.

1. You can receive 10,000 Membership Rewards® points as a Referral Bonus for each new Premier Rewards Gold Card application you refer resulting in an approved account. You are limited to a maximum of 55,000 Membership Rewards points per calendar year in Referral Bonuses. To receive the 10,000 Membership Rewards points, (a) you must submit referral(s) by 07/26/2017 and (b) the referred individual(s) must apply to the specific offer online through the e-mailed link provided by American Express and be approved by 07/26/2017. After you receive 50,000 Membership Rewards points in Referral Bonuses in a calendar year, you will only be eligible to earn 5,000 Membership Rewards points as a Referral Bonus in that calendar year.

This offer is available online only to Basic Card Members. Please allow 6-8 weeks for the Referral Bonus to post to your account after each referred individual is approved for the Card. Points will be debited from your Membership Rewards account, and credit for corresponding dollar amount will be issued to the American Express Card account used. If points redeemed do not cover entire amount, the balance of purchase price will remain on the American Express Card account. Minimum redemption 5,000 points.
